Our Projects
BINA BASHCHUNA
Participants serve as tutors for disadvantaged children in after-school programs, lead workshops for senior citizens, and organize community holiday celebrations, in south Tel Aviv. Living and working in Israel’s toughest neighborhoods is not easy. Through Bina in the Neighborhood, participants are exposed to a microcosm of Israeli society, both its diversity and its challenges: the anguish and despair of migrant foreign laborers, the traditions of veteran Israelis from central Asia, and the cycle of poverty. Bina sees this as an important step in the development of a social conscience. Based on the success of the south Tel Aviv project, a similar program in Beersheva’s “Daled” neighborhood is being launched. Beyond their involvement in the communities, Bina’s young adults develop strong group dynamics and community solidarity. Living together, they share experiences, decisions, and resources. Bina believes this is element is crucial because it encourages tolerance, cooperation, and leadership.
