Inaugurating the Botanical Gardens in Tel Aviv with Mayor Ron Huldai

On February 7th we held a very special Tu Bishvat ceremony celebrating 20 years of BINA, 10 years of the Secular Yeshiva and the opening of the new Ecological Farm and renewed Botanic Gardens at the new Beit BINA campus in South Tel Aviv.  We were joined by Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo, Ron Huldai and Deputy-Mayor Asaf Zamir. The Mayor planted the very first tree in our Eco-Farm and shared these thoughts with us:

“Too often we forget that there is a natural connection between Jewish values and environmental values. However we are fortunate, that despite the increasing polarization in Israeli discourse today, there are initiatives and organizations like BINA and the Secular Yeshiva, who have placed at the heart of their mission the preservation and advancement of such values: of solidarity, social responsibility, concern for the stranger and for the weak. All are important Jewish values. Don’t listen to those who may try to convince you otherwise. Today we celebrate the 20th birthday of BINA and 10 years of the first Secular Yeshiva. I am incredibly grateful that BINA have decided to bring to Tel Aviv-Yafo their contribution to Israeli society, their quest for social justice, and their work to bridge between the sources of Jewish culture and young people from across Israel.
Tel Aviv-Yafo, being the first modern Hebrew city, and the place where our new cultural narrative came into being, is proud to be your home and partner. The work that you are doing here in the Botanic Garden is but one example of this important partnership, and I wish you many new successful projects and challenges like this. Todah Rabah. Thank you to BINA.”
