BINA’s Leon Wiener Dow’s new book wins award!

Congratulations to BINA educator Leon Wiener Dow on winning a National Jewish Book Award for his new book “The Going: A Meditation on Jewish Law”.

This unique and inspiring book explores Jewish law through philosophical, theological and personal reflections. Leon teaches philosophy, Talmud and Jewish law at the BINA Secular Yeshiva in Tel Aviv.

Description: In a work that casts philosophical and theological reflections against a backdrop of personal experience, Leon Wiener Dow offers a learned discourse that elucidates the telos of Jewish law and the philosophical-theological commitments that animate it. To the reader gazing upon the halakha from the outside, this book offers a glimpse of its central, orienting concepts. To the reader who lives amidst the rigor of halakha, this book bestows an insightful glance at the law’s orienting ethos and higher aspirations that often remain opaque.

A surprising opening that suggests perhaps within the heart of illness, difficulty, and pain, the key to renewal can also be found. […]

For Passover 2025 / 5785 – By Elliot Vaisrub Glassenberg – I grew up learning that the entire Passover seder can be summarized in one sentence: “In every generation each person must see themselves as if they themselves came out of Egypt”. I was taught that the purpose of the seder is to cultivate within us a mindset of continued mindful awareness, appreciation and gratitude of our freedom, so that we don’t take it for granted, lest we become complacent or apathetic.
